Can You Accept Canadian Checks?

The short answer is yes, if you have an Echeck merchant account. We do not process ACH transactions from Canada.

Please note that the Canadian banking system is different than the operations in the United States, and with this comes potential issues. If you accept Canadian checks, we will not be held liable or responsible for any errors, problems, or possible omissions as we are not able to "scrub" them for mistakes. There is insufficient data from the banks in Canada to be able to verify the information accurately. Also, your bank may charge an additional fee above what we charge you for the service. It ranges from bank to bank. However, you must note that some banks charge ridiculous fee amounts for transferring money into U.S. Dollars. You are responsible for knowing this charge may exist, and we highly suggest you contact your bank to find out what they will charge before processing your first Canadian check.

Also, some Canadian banks require special routing/coding, and we do our best to program that into the system but have run into errors after processing to some banks (that do not know how to handle Canadian checks). If you understand that there are more risks associated with taking these checks, including long delays on your funds, we will be more than happy to set you up.
