A simple chargeback such as NSF must be returned by the paying financial institution within 1-banking day of receipt. This law allows the paying bank time to research higher dollar or suspicious transactions. As an example, a bank that receives a debit at 2pm has until 2pm the following day to mark the item as paid or unpaid. The item cannot be held longer than 24-hours.
A consumer can legally chargeback a standard Debit, Edebit, or ACH transaction up to 90-days from their last statement cycle with their bank.
To protect yourself from consumer chargeback fraud, we do have features available to assist you, such as Edebit and ACH authorization forms for one-time and recurring transactions. We also offer PUSH transactions via Email Invoicing. This captures the IP address and electronic signature of the Payor.
